The journey begins today...

It's New Year's Day 2006 and the Lake Placid Ironman race is a mere 202 days away. It seems so far away but in reality it is so close. 162 days have passed since I signed up for the race this past July.

Today I embarked on a 30 week training regimen. With a bit of luck and some smart training strategies I can remain injury-free. The time commitments are large but Jenny and my girls understand how important this race is to me. I estimate that I will swim 200,000 yards, bike 3,000 miles, and run 550 miles in the next seven months. Much of it will occur in the morning before the girls wake or at night after they go to sleep.

My goal is to continue to post entries throughout my training. While much of it will be boring to those who read it, I believe this will serve as a nice reminder of all my hard work, sacrifice and suffering.

Here's to a good, safe season and a great time at Ironman Lake Placid 2006. Anything is possible.

75 days and counting until Ironman Arizona. I don't think I'm anywhere near riding 3000 miles.
